I was lucky enough to attend the annual Friend Raiser Gala this year. It was a great experience volunteering at the event running the Sparkle Raffle. I met a lot of great people and was amazed to see the amount of support the hospital received at the event. In total, the foundation was able to raise $320,000 that will help fund new technology, equipment, and innovative programs.
There was one speech that really hit home for me. The speech focused on the idea of “skipping one”, whether it is a specialty coffee during ‘pumpkin spice’ season, or an ice cream after a baseball game in the summer. If you can remain focused in the moment and “skip one” for the Hospital, you can take those funds and donate them to the Foundation.
It really got me thinking about an easy way to make that meaningful donation. These donations matter and make a huge difference in our community. How can you “skip one” easily and make a donation?
Thankfully, the hospital has the Giving Every Month (GEM) program, which allows you to make a recurring donation on a monthly basis. This is an easy way for you to make a monthly donation of any amount from the comfort of your own home. Our donation system accepts recurring donations for the GEM program, allowing you to “skip one” for the Foundation without worrying about how to get the extra money over to the Foundation.
Before becoming involved with the Hospital Foundation, I can honestly say I didn’t think much about the Hospital unless my family was in trouble and needed care. I wasn’t aware of the amount of people who come through the hospital, and the amazing programs available.
• The Sturgeon Hospital treated over 102,000 patients and had almost 50,000 emergency room visits last year;
• Thanks to support from the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation, the hospital is striving to be an upper extremity orthopedic center of excellence over the next few years;
• It was the first hospital in Western Canada to acquire a 16 slice computerized CT scanner, providing radiologists the ability to do twice the number of images in the same amount of time. The Foundation was also a generous supporter of that initiative.
I know that a healthy and vibrant hospital is the cornerstone of a community and that we are so very fortunate to have this pillar of healthcare and service right around the corner.
Does that have you thinking what you might be willing to skip in support of great healthcare? How can you ‘skip one’ for the Hospital? What small luxury can you give up to help out?
Whether it is a one time donation of 100 or even 5000, or a recurring monthly commitment of 25 dollars, every donation makes a difference. You never know when the hospital will be there for you in your time of need.
